Key benefits compared to other products

The FG720 was one of our best-selling acoustic guitars thanks to its superb playability and tone. The new FG820 guitar adds an even richer tone with improved feel and response. Ideal for adult beginners or those looking for a great all-round acoustic guitar

Yamaha FG820L Left-Hand Acoustic Guitar

Featuring superb projection and volume with a warm, rich tone, the FG800L Left-Hand guitar makes a great full size acoustic guitar both for those starting out and those upgrading from smaller beginner models.

The new FG800 models have been developed based on our extensive research as well as feedback from players and industry experts. We found that lots of things didn’t need to be touched - but there was a consistent theme: guitarists wanted to go back towards the original FG180 sound with just a little more volume; a little more bass; a little more oomph.

Combining our luthiers' experience with state of the art structural acoustic analysis, we developed an even deeper understanding of how internal structure affects a guitar's voice, and how the original FG180 sounded so incredible. From there, we engineered a new design which both captures and enhances that classic tone.

One result of this unique approach is a totally new scalloped bracing pattern. It gives our FG800 Series more volume, more projection, more low end and a bigger tone for the player - everything we set out to do. In addition, the new bracing pattern moves the resonant centre much closer to the middle of the guitar, with a big impact on both the tone and the feel to the player.

But our goal was not only to craft a guitar that sounds great today, but to craft one who's tone lasts for a lifetime. A solid top board, a 0.25mm thin finish for great tone and superior wood protection, a super-comfortable thin neck profile and thin back and sides construction ensure maximum volume and resonance with long-term stability and consistency.

Newly Developed Scalloped Bracing

A new FG has louder and stronger sound in the low- to mid-ranges, thanks to cutting-edge acoustic analysis technology developed by the Yamaha R&D Division.
Yamaha’s engineers have achieved this sound by utilizing analysis and simulation to arrive at the best bracing design without depending on tradition or guesswork.
This analysis led to the development of the new scalloped bracing pattern, a new and ideal acoustic structure that maintains the durability of the top board while bringing out the most sound the Yamaha FG has to offer.

50 Years of History

The history of Yamaha‘s FG series started in 1966 with the release of the FG180 and FG150. Over the 50 years since its introduction, we have developed and produced several generations of FG - all of which have made FG the ideal acoustic for contemporary players.
In all, there have been over 200 FG models since 1966.

Made in Yamaha

Every aspect of an FG is crafted to make a better guitar. From painstakingly cured and dried woods to beautiful hand-sprayed finishes and detailed quality control checks each and every FG is made to be a lifelong partner.
