John Broadwood & Sons is the oldest and one of the most prestigious piano companies in the world & was founded in 1728 by a Swiss Harpsichord maker Burkat Shudi. In 1761, John Broadwood, a cabinet maker, came to London and began working for the for the Swiss Harpsichord maker. John some years later married Burkat Shudi's daughter, and following his death, he was bequeathed the workshop and became the head of the company. With the decline in harpischord popularity, they concetrated only the manufacture of pianos.

The instruments have been enjoyed by such famous people as Mozart, Haydn, Chopin, Beethoven and Liszt. The company holds the Royal Warrant as manufacturer of pianos to Queen Elizabeth II.
